Top Texas and Arizona State Players Not Playing in the Peach Bowl

There's a playoff semifinal spot on the line when Texas plays Arizona State, but there are several players not playing in the Peach Bowl.

With the Texas Longhorns boasting one of the best defenses in the nation, and the Arizona State Sun Devils roster featuring one of the most unstoppable weapons in college football, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl should be one of the more entertaining College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchups we see this week.

However, between injuries, transfer portal entrants, and NFL Draft declarations, there will be several Texas and Arizona State players not playing in the Peach Bowl.

One name dominates the list of players not playing in the Peach Bowl, and there’s actually still a chance he does make an appearance in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Offensive tackle Williams was injured during the first-round win over the Clemson Tigers, and the Longhorns standout is listed as questionable at the time of writing.

Wide receiver Isaiah Bond is also nursing an injury but is considered likely to play, unlike fellow pass catcher Cook, who entered the transfer portal having made just six appearances and snagging eight receptions this year. The former five-star recruit took a social media shot at quarterback Quinn Ewers, suggesting he isn’t worthy of some lofty rumored NIL offers to transfer.

Like the Longhorns, the list of Arizona State players not playing in the Peach Bowl is headed by a significant injury. Wide receiver Tyson was injured in the regular season finale against the in-state rival Arizona Wildcats and was ruled out indefinitely by head coach Kenny Dillingham. He led the team with 1,101 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns during the regular season.

There are several Sun Devils currently in the transfer portal but a number of them have remained with the team for the playoff run. However, cornerback Welch is among the players not playing in the Peach Bowl. He didn’t play in the Big 12 Championship Game, but ties the program lead for passes defended this season.
