The host of “The Number One College Football Show” revealed the hilarious trick used by Bob Stoops to avoid answering questions about his players or injuries. RJ Young, who is a National College Football writer and analyst at FOX Sports, reminisced about an incident that happened about 13 years ago while he was covering the Oklahoma Sooners.

Bob Stoops’ Unique Approach to Avoiding Questions
“Bob Stoops has always been secretive. He’s never been the most transparent guy when it comes to his players and or injuries. He just hates answering the question,” Young said.
“In fact this goes back to…Bob’s Stoops’…when I was covering the team…I remember asking him if a player was going to be ready to go after suffering a concussion…and he’s like are you a gambling guy? And this is 2012 guys, before gambling became basically legal in the United States. So I can only imagine what it’s like,” Young revealed on his show.
Stoops led the Oklahoma Sooners to the top 25 that year and to the Cotton Bowl, where they lost to Texas A&M 41-13.
Stoops is widely regarded as one of the best coaches of all time in college football. The former Oklahoma Sooners head coach was famous for his unique–and sometimes hilarious—ways of avoiding football questions he didn’t want to answer. The 64-year-old is a master at handling the media and deflecting attention when needed.
Stoops started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Iowa in 1983 before he moved to Kansas State in 1986, where he served under legendary coach Bill Snyder. He then became the defensive backs coach at Florida from 1996 to 1998 before being named Oklahoma’s head coach in 1999.
The American had a remarkable career at Oklahoma, winning a National Championship in 2000 and 10 Big 12 titles. He also took the team to four National Championship appearances and secured 14 major bowl victories.

Stoops left Oklahoma in 2016 and was the head coach of XFL’s Dallas Renegades in 2020.
