Former Michigan running back Benjamin Hall has committed to play at North Carolina under Bill Belichick.

Top RB Transfer Benjamin Hall Is Headed to Chapel Hill
The former Wolverine announced his commitment to UNC just a week after entering the transfer portal. With Michigan losing its top two running backs from last year, Kalel Mullings and Donovan Edwards, Hall is looking to get more playing time elsewhere.
A North Carolina team that finished 6-7 in 2024 looks to bolster its ground game with this new addition. UNC is losing over 30% of its offensive production, as Omarion Hampton is set to be one of the top running backs taken in this year’s 2025 NFL Draft.
Hampton, who rushed for 1,660 yards and 15 Touchdowns on 281 carries, leaves behind a lot of touches to be passed around this upcoming fall.

With Hampton on his way to the NFL, he looks to be the 4th UNC RB to enter the NFL in the last few years, joining Michael Carter (Cardinals), Javonte Williams (Broncos), and British Brooks (Texans)
Running the ball was a strength for the Tarheels, as they ended the season fifth in the ACC in rushing. Hall adds another body to the running back room to help keep the high standard of the run game up to par.
Hall, who only amassed 72 yards on 29 carries on a run-heavy Wolverines squad, looks to compete for a bigger role with the Tar Heels.
Michigan, on the other hand, didn’t waste any time finding his replacement. They added CJ Hester, an RB from UMASS who rushed for 529 yards and 4 touchdowns on 119 carries.
That’s college football in 2025, one player enters the portal and another one takes his spot. It’s a revolving door of players coming and going that isn’t stopping anytime soon.
Hall who spent the spring with Michigan, will look to impress Belichick and his staff during training camp this fall. With three years of eligibility, there is still time to develop and carve out a role with an offense that will be brand new to everyone.
From his days with the Patriots, we know Belichick loves a multi-talented RB who can do it all: run between the tackles, block, and catch passes out of the backfield.

If Hall wants to see more playing time than he did at Michigan, he’s going to have to prove that he can do all three.
Belichick has a lot to prove in year one. Fans all across the country were shocked to hear that at the age of 73, Belichick decided to coach in the college ranks.
Now we wait and see if Belichick is taking his “Patriot Way” to UNC and how effective it will be at the college level.
The greatest football coach of all time has a new challenge on his hands. Adding great transfer additions like Hall, says that they’re cooking up something in Chapel Hill, we just have to wait and see to find out.
