North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick was served with a brutal reality check by his former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, who took shots at the legendary coach’s controversial relationship with 24-year-old model Jordon Hudson.
Edelman, who spent 12 years under Belichick at the Patriots, recalled how the head coach spoke about life outside football as a “distraction.” Now that Belichick’s own off-field life has been brought into discussion for being the reason for his poor start in the 2025 college football season, Edelman, who has a net worth of $25 million (via Celebrity Net Worth), shot a friendly fire on his former coach, though not in a direct sense.
“Everyone has their life outside of the sport,” Edelman told People. “What he always told me is that we had to eliminate distractions. So, I don’t know. You could take what you want with that.

Julian Edelman assesses Bill Belichick’s college debut
Bill Belichick returned to the sidelines after missing out on the 2024 college football season. The legendary Patriots coach parted ways with the franchise after the 2023 season. Before the 2025 season, he signed a five-year contract with North Carolina. This was the first time Belichick was hired for an opportunity in college.
While there were high expectations for the head coach, the season opener against TCU turned out to be a loss. Belichick’s offense managed to score only two touchdowns, while on defense, they gave up 48 points, the most Belichick has faced in his coaching career.
During an interview with People, Edelman gave her verdict on Belichick’s first game in college.
“The first thing that came to my mind, ‘They look great in that first drive’,” he said. “Boy, did they look good. Man, Coach Belichick had them firing on all cylinders. Go down score, and then stop TCU, and then the dam broke and it just became a slaughtering for TCU.”
Edelman defended that TCU had a better core while North Carolina was stuffed with news players.
“TCU looked like they had a bunch of really good football players, and North Carolina had 70 new players on the roster,” he added. “That’s a lot of players, and they have some catching up to do in that talent department.”
Belichick’s UNC won their Week 2 game against Charlotte and are next scheduled to face Richmond this Saturday.
