‘He Broke My Rib’ — Bill Belichick Hilariously Recalls Taking Painful Lessons From 2-Time Super Bowl Champ Rosevelt Colvin

Football coaching legend Bill Belichick is transitioning from the NFL to college football, as he aims to begin his first season as head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels this fall. However, as he continues to prepare himself and his team for next season, the former New England Patriots head coach is still looking back at his time in the NFL, particularly regarding two-time Super Bowl champion Rosevelt Colvin.

The former NFL linebacker was essential in the Patriots’ 2004 and 2005 Super Bowl wins. Before that happened, however, Bill Belichick had to make sure he was good at his job, though the legendary coach would end up regretting it and coming out with a broken rib.

In an interview on “The Coach Show,” the new North Carolina head coach talked about this rather painful experience.

“Yeah, this is a rather sore subject for me,” Belichick said. “I remember when he slapped me, he broke my rib. That’s what I remember. I came off the field and I’m like, God dawg, my rib hurts. What happens and the thing was cracked and he slapped me and broke it, but I got even, I got even.”

Belichick did have his revenge on the linebacker, though, as he gave a locker to share with one of his teammates, and the two had to share such a tight space with one another. The coach then told Colvin that they will be sharing that same locker until his rib heals.

Bill Belichick Staying As North Carolina Head Coach Despite Controversies With Girlfriend

Despite having such a legendary coach like Bill Belichick coach a college team, the focus of many storylines is not even on his moves as the new Tar Heels head coach, but rather on his relationship with Jordon Hudson. There were rumors that the school was not happy with the negative press this relationship is getting, but Stewart Mandel of The Athletic has reported that the former Patriots coach is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Belichick’s name alone has been a boon to North Carolina’s recruitment, though his relationship with a woman 48 years younger than him has affected the image of his efforts for his new team. Belichick is 73 years old, while his girlfriend, Hudson, is 24.

Despite the media sensationalizing the relationship, Belichick and his new squad will seek to shake off all those relationship talks on September 1 as they open the season against the TCU Horned Frogs at home in Chapel Hill.
