It’s a new beginning for legendary coach Bill Belichick, who will take over the reins at UNC football in 2025. After 24 years in the NFL, Belichick will lead a college football program for the first time in his career.
He received a warm welcome from North Carolina Tar Heels fans when he arrived at the university, something that he cherishes amid his ongoing recruiting trail trips in hopes of stacking up the roster.

“It’s been great. The reception has been great from all levels. The student body at a couple of basketball games and those types of things,” Belichick said about his experience. “They seem pretty happy about the pizza, so that was good. The players have been great. They’re working extremely hard, and, you know, trying to get better and do the things we’re asking them to do.”
“You know Lee Roberts and the administration have been great in terms of the transition. And the alumni from the Rams Club to many of the football alumni, you know, Taylor and Peppers, and Harris Barton, Jeff Saturday, and can go on and on. It has been great as well,” he added.
Fans are hoping that UNC becomes a new powerhouse in college football, just like Nick Saban transformed the Alabama Crimson Tide into a dynasty. Last season proved quite disastrous for the program, with multiple losses under head coach Mack Brown.
They wrapped up the campaign with a 6-7 record and eventually led to Brown’s firing. Belichick, who left the NFL arena in 2024, was reportedly looking for an opportunity, and that’s when the UNC opening came into the picture.

On multiple occasions, he has reiterated that he didn’t pick the college job to leave, even if a tempting NFL offer comes to his table in the near future.
