Former New England Patriots and current North Carolina Tar Heels tactician Bill Belichick’s tenure with his college football program may be coming to an end. On Wednesday, Oct. 8, Ollie Connolly alleged that Belichick is discussing buyout options with the University of North Carolina.
It was also reported that Belichick is interested in a $1 million buyout option if he can find a role in another football squad or in football media. This comes after the Tar Heels’ below .500 record in the year so far, with more reports of Belichick’s behavior and his growing distrust with the team coming out.
College football fans reacted in disappointment over Belichick’s tenure with the UNC program.
“Just retire please, everyone hates your guts,” one user captioned.
“Not surprising. 1. Time has shown us that he was nothing before and after Brady. 2. This is why coaches who have had past winning experiences, usually, only comeback to coach if the roster is loaded and they a lot of power. Phil Jackson anyone? 3. ‘Girlfriend’ drama,” another user pointed out.
“Ya, he needs to find another job to pay the bills. Come on, man 😂,” another said with a laughing emoji.
“I feel for the athletes that have to put up with this circus show,” a user wrote.
Other X users opined that Belichick was successful because he coached one of the greatest football players of all time, Tom Brady.
“I guess it was Tom Brady the whole time. Bill can’t coach his way out of a wet paper bag,” one user shared.
“He was never a great coach, just carried by the greatest quarterback of all time Brady. Without Brady, Bill Belichick has zero Super Bowls,” another user claimed.
“He was only good because of Tom Brady,” a user posted.
Belichick and the Tar Heels have churned out an overall record of 2-3 (0-1 ACC) so far and are currently the No. 11 seed in their conference’s standings. They are coming off a two-game losing streak against the UCF Knights and Clemson Tigers, 34-9 and 38-10, respectively, as they head into their Week 6 matchup on Friday, Oct. 17, against the California Golden Bears.

Ollie Connolly Reports What A Member Of The UNC Tar Heels Coaching Staff Said About Bill Belichick And UNC
As per another post by Ollie Connolly on X/Twitter, a defensive assistant at the North Carolina Tar Heels football program said that what their players are going through is not the regular norm for college football.
Whatever this could entail may eventually serve as the basis for whether or not Bill Belichick finishes out his 2025 campaign with the team or not.
“From one UNC defensive assistant: ‘What we’ve done to these kids is fucked up,'” Connolly wrote.
