It’s 2025, and while the Michigan Wolverines are focused on building their team for the upcoming season, they’re also laying the groundwork for the 2026 recruiting class. Although their 2026 class is still coming together, it currently ranks No. 40 nationally and No. 14 in the Big Ten, according to 247Sports.
The start was slow, but Michigan seems ready to shift gears. They already appear to be thinking ahead to their 2027 roster. Their latest move has sent shockwaves through the college football world.
Charles Woodson Jr., the son of Michigan legend and Hall of Famer Charles Woodson, has officially entered the national spotlight. He recently received a scholarship offer from Michigan, and with that, the buzz around the Wolverines’ recruiting efforts just reached a whole new level.
Michigan Offers Scholarship to 4-Star Safety Charles Woodson Jr. for 2027 Class
Few names in football carry the weight and legacy of “Woodson.” So when the son of the Wolverine legend stepped into the recruiting spotlight, attention was bound to follow. But as we all know, it wasn’t just his four-star status that attracted attention—it was his legendary last name.
On Wednesday night, Michigan made things official. This move strengthens the legacy of one of the most celebrated families in Wolverine history. This offer carries extra weight since his father is a Michigan legend and a Heisman Trophy winner. No doubt, he has now become a nationally recognized recruit.
The No. 284 recruit in the 2027 class is from Lake Nona High School in Orlando, Florida. Before Michigan entered the mix, he had already received offers from Florida State, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Iowa State, Kentucky, and Syracuse. However, with Michigan officially offering him a scholarship, the Wolverines appear to be leading the race, mainly due to his father’s legendary connection to the program.

Woodson Sr. is a legendary figure at Michigan. From 1995 to 1997, he dominated the college football world. He earned All-Big Ten honors three times and was a two-time All-American. In 1997, he made history by becoming the first primarily defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy while leading Michigan to a national championship.

That’s why the Wolves have had their eyes on Woodson for a while. They have been his home for two consecutive summers. While he still has over a year before he can officially suit up in the maize and blue, there’s plenty of time to grow and prepare.
The Wolverines are known for developing elite secondary players, and Woodson could be the next in line to carry on his father’s legacy.
