It was only after the Wolverines had dealt the final blow to Ohio State in the waning stages of the fourth quarter that Penn State fans could start celebrating. And it was only after Penn State took a comfortable lead against Maryland in Week 14 that the Nittany Lions could start focusing on the Big Ten Championship Game.

With their win over Maryland — despite Indiana’s win over Purdue — the Nittany Lions held the tiebreaker over the Hoosiers and earned their place in the Big Ten Championship Game. Waiting since a week prior, the Oregon Ducks had already clinched their spot following Week 13.

At the center of conference realignment in recent years, the 2024 season in the Big Ten marked the culmination of years of efforts to expand the conference. In 2024, Oregon, USC, UCLA, and Washington joined, officially becoming members on July 1, 2024.
