College Football programs are preparing for the new season, and every head coach, including Sherrone Moore and Michigan, is planning how to dethrone Ohio State as the defending champions. An anonymous coach shared his thoughts on Michigan and how well prepared they are.
Many coaches don’t usually comment on other teams’ squads as they prefer to speak on their own teams, but Athlon Sports managed to get comments from some Big Ten coaches. Usually, comments and analysis of teams are left to insiders, analysts, and outlets such as ESPN and others, but Athlon managed to get these comments anonymously.

Big Ten Coaches speak on Michigan’s preparedness.
In their 2025 College Football Preview print magazine, Athlon Sports did a piece where they let Big Ten coaches pass comments on other teams anonymously, and Michigan wasn’t left out.
“It’s tempting to look at these rosters after the national title and define them by what they lose to the draft every year, but we don’t do that with [Kirby] Smart or [Nick] Saban or those programs. Michigan is an elite-level recruiting program. So yeah, they lost a Mason Graham, but they’re ready to plug in that next guy. It’s not plug and play, but it’s close.”
“They would’ve been a serious postseason contender last year if they had a quarterback on the roster. Now they do, so it’s all about how fast [Chip] Lindsey can get him up to speed and going.”
“The focus is on [Bryce] Underwood, but it should be on finding new backs to go with him.”
“They’re not going to change that [Jim] Harbaugh identity all that much, and the ground game is how they define themselves.”

Regardless of these anonymous comments, Michigan seems locked in ahead of the new season as the Wolverines are bringing in one of the nation’s best recruiting classes in 2025, headlined by five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood.
The Wolverines also made some big additions via the transfer portal this offseason, with running back Justin Hayes from Alabama, Wide receiver Donaven McCulley from Indiana, and defensive lineman Tre Williams from Clemson all expected to play important roles for Michigan this coming season.
