College football analyst Nick Marovets does not believe that head Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes should be frontrunners to win the Big 12 Championship next season.
While appearing alongside Drake C. Toll on the popular podcast “Locked On Big 12,” Marovets highlighted how the various players departing the Buffaloes this year — namely, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter — could make it difficult for the school to compete next year.
Although it now appears that Coach Prime will remain with the Buffaloes after the Dallas Cowboys promoted offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach, Sanders and Hunter are almost certainly going to be selected in the top rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft. Despite this, Colorado will look to improve next year from their 9-4 mark in 2024.

Nick Marovets and Drake C. Toll’s Colorado Buffaloes Assessment
Toll asked Marovets whether he saw the Buffaloes as frontrunners in the Big 12 next year, and Marovets outlined why he did not see that happening.
“I don’t see it. No Travis Hunter. No Shedeur. And obviously, you lose a ton more. They did bring in the number one quarterback, I believe it was in this year’s class, but is he going to see the field right away? I don’t know exactly what that looks like. I’m sure nobody in Colorado does either,” he stated.
What Will the Colorado Buffaloes Look Like Next Year?
As alluded to in the video, Sanders and Hunter will not be suiting up for the Buffaloes next year. Still, Coach Prime appears to have his next quarterback lined up in top high school prospect Julian Lewis.
Lewis, a Georgia native, played his preps football at Carrollton High School. In ESPN’s Top 300 ranking, Lewis was listed as the No. 2 prospect available, only behind fellow QB Bryce Underwood.
Lewis turned down various top college football programs to commit to Coach Prime and the Buffaloes, including the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Texas Longhorns.
Now, Coach Prime and the Buffaloes will be getting one of the most exciting and talented quarterbacks available.
Though it is unknown whether he will play in his freshman year — he will compete with Liberty Flames transfer Kaidon Salter — it does appear that the Buffaloes are prepared for a fresh start after the expected departures of their star NFL prospects.
