Biff Poggi Warns of Major Shakeup as Several Michigan Players Set to Miss Texas Clash

Michigan Wolverines interim head coach Biff Poggi has indicated a major roster shakeup after the firing of Sherrone Moore on Dec. 10. Moore was fired after he was found by the school to have engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

Just a few days ago, Poggi said that the Michigan student-athletes feel betrayed by the program and that the athletic director is doing everything to bring stability. Now, ahead of the Citrus Bowl matchup against the Texas Longhorns on Dec. 31, Poggi revealed that several Michigan players will be missing out, as he predicts that almost 25 players won’t be playing.

“So, you know, I’m thinking, honestly, there could be 25 guys, you know, possibly not come back,” Poggi said.

This should not come as a surprise since the school has already lost the trust of many student athletes and we might see more warning signs as we get near to the start of the transfer portal.

Biff Poggi Asks Michigan Boys To Play Hard Against Texas

During the same conversation, interim head coach Biff Poggi revealed that he thinks Michigan should have been a part of the College Football Playoff after the start they had.

“It’s been like something I’ve never experienced, and all I want for these kids is to enjoy the experience of playing in the Citrus Bowl against a team that should be in the CFP,” Poggi said. “I think we can all say that after the first couple, after the first round we saw, I mean, come on, give me a break.”

Poggi revealed how the program and he personally are looking forward to the Citrus Bowl matchup. Poggi said he’s not putting any expectations out of this matchup but added that he had asked his players to play hard so that they can assure themselves they gave their all.

“And to just enjoy it. And I will tell you this: we have not talked about—obviously, we talk all the time, about Texas and the personnel, and what they do, and how, you know, all that for them,” Poggi added. “But we’re being very careful about putting any goals around this thing that could wind up being a further disappointment to the kids we have.

“And we will play hard. We’re coming. We will play hard. I don’t know how many we’ll come with, quite frankly. And I don’t know how well we’ll play, but we’ll play hard. And I want them to be able to say for the rest of their lives, ‘We went, we played really hard against a great opponent, and we gave it our all.’”

It remains to be seen if Michigan can come out on top against Texas despite being shorthanded.
