Coming off arguably his best season yet in college football, Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love is faced with a tall task next season, imploring the question of whether Love can get Notre Dame to the playoffs by himself.
Next season, Love will undoubtedly be the top running back in college football. Ashton Jeanty and Cam Skattebo recently held that title but have since declared for the NFL Draft and will not be in college next fall. So, can Love lead Notre Dame to the playoffs by himself?
Can Jeremiyah Love Lead Notre Dame to the CPF on His Own?
JD PicKell, leader of The Hard Count for On3 Sports, asked this question in his latest podcast. He spoke about how Jeanty and Skattebo made the playoffs this year despite not having the best team around them and said we could see the same from Love next year.

In his 2024 season, Love never had more than 16 carries in any game he played in and still managed to get over 1,000 yards by the end of the season. Love, who just finished his sophomore season, finished with 163 carries for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns.
He rushed for 98 yards and showed why he is truly one of the most explosive backs in college football. Love was also a decent receiving back, hauling in 28 receptions for 237 yards and two touchdown catches.
It’s fair to question the Notre Dame team we’ve seen on the field in recent memory. Has Notre Dame had a player as explosive as Love in a while? Probably not. However, with Love now on the roster, he can certainly be their workhorse going forward and a big part of their game plan.
With his explosiveness as a runner, the ability to hand the ball off to Love and see him take it to the endzone regardless of where you are on the field are both big reasons why Love could very well be leading Notre Dame to the College Football Playoffs by himself.
With Jeanty and Skattebo both gone this upcoming season, Love has the chance to be the undisputed top running back in the sport. He will undoubtedly be Notre Dame’s best player on the field every game, and they should use that to their advantage.
