Kansas’ Jalon Daniels Eyes Big 2025 Season

Daniels recently underwent a minor knee procedure, as reported by The Kansas City Star’s Shreyas Laddha. This means Daniels will be limited during spring practice, but his long-term availability for the upcoming season remains on track.

In 2024, Daniels recorded 2,454 passing yards and 14 touchdowns while throwing 12 interceptions.

Although it wasn’t his strongest passing season, Daniels showcased his mobility, rushing for a career-high 447 yards and six touchdowns on 93 carries. His dual-threat ability played a significant role in Kansas’ offensive schemes, especially in the latter half of the season when he found his rhythm.

He was instrumental in leading the Jayhawks to three consecutive ranked victories over Kansas State, Iowa State, and BYU.

Following the season, Daniels restructured his NIL deal to return for one more year, signaling his commitment to the Kansas Jayhawks football program.

Daniels made his intentions clear in a heartfelt statement regarding his decision to return for the 2025 season.

“Kansas has been my home, my family, and my foundation. This journey has been nothing short of incredible, but we’re not done yet. The work continues, and the best is still ahead,” Daniels wrote.

“I’m ready to lead the Kansas Jayhawks into the 2025 season and fully focused on becoming the best QB possible. I’m staying to finish what we’ve started, continue building, and to give back to the fans who’ve given us everything. Let’s make history, Jayhawks Nation!”

Daniels has been a major force for Kansas throughout his five years in Lawrence. His 6,751 career passing yards place him second in program history, trailing only Todd Reesing.

He also holds the school record for the most passing yards in a single game, with 544 yards in the Arkansas-Liberty Bowl in 2022 against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Additionally, his 45 career touchdown passes rank second all-time for the program, again behind Reesing’s 90.

Kansas’ 2025 Roster and Offseason Adjustments

The Jayhawks finished the 2024 season with a 5-7 record, marking their worst performance under head coach Lance Leipold since his first year in charge. Determined to prevent another disappointing season, Leipold and his coaching staff have been aggressive in reshaping the roster through the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Kansas has brought in 21 new players via the portal, with a focus on strengthening key positions. Notable additions include interior offensive lineman Tyler Mercer, linebacker Bangally Kamara, and safety Jahlil Hurley.

These transfers will provide the team with much-needed reinforcements, particularly in protecting Daniels and bolstering the defense. Kansas’ transfer class is ranked No. 18 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings, highlighting the impact of their offseason recruiting efforts.
