A college football video game is back after an 11-year hiatus, and you can’t talk about the rich strategic history of the sport without mentioning the option-style offense.
So, which playbook in EA Sports College Football 25 has the best option offense?
College Football 25’s Best Option Playbooks
There are so many ways to play offense in College Football 25, and EA did a great job incorporating new plays and formations so that we can pretend we are the offensive coordinator for our favorite team.
There are several different offensive styles in college football, which makes the sport unique and exciting. Spread, Air Raid, pro-style, and the option are just a few. The option attack has been around for over a century and continues evolving today into things like RPOs, which we see at the NFL level.
Let’s take a look at the best option playbooks in College Football 25.
Air Force Falcons
Flexbone is back! The Air Force Falcons have one of the most enjoyable playbooks in College Football 25 if you love to pound the rock.
Flexbone tight and flexbone close are two of my personal favorite formations that include plays like “inside veer triple option” and “QB cntr option.”
There are fullback tosses and quarterback-designed runs as well.
The full arsenal of the running attack can be seen in the Air Force playbook. The playbook even has some nice passing concepts if you’re behind the chains with plays like “slant out trails” and “corners.” I recommend checking out the pistol empty tight stack formation as well.
Liberty Flames
The Flames have a really nice spread option playbook in College Football 25, which is built around quarterback Kaidon Salter, who boasts a 90 overall and 87 speed in the game. The playbook is primarily shotgun-based, with a few pistol formations sprinkled in.
All the shotgun split formations are loaded with speed options, triple options, and some nice passing concepts. The pistol formations have some really nice wide receiver sweep plays to accompany all the options.
Ohio Bobcats
Similar to the Flames, Ohio primarily uses shotgun and pistol for its offense. The playbook consists of nine shotgun formations and seven pistol formations.
The Bobcats’ playbook consists of many RPOs, which are very effective in College Football 25 and add a nice blend to regular option-type plays. The “bunch wide” formation stands out as a nice way to incorporate the passing game if needed.
Army Black Knights
Army’s playbook is relatively similar to Air Force’s, but it does have much more shotgun formations. You can find all the flexbone formations here and some pistol, too. The main difference from Air Force’s playbook is that the Black Knights have 10 shotgun formations.
The two that stand out are slot left stack and trips offset. All the slot shotgun formations really stand out as a way to differ fromAir Force’s playbook. Both Army and Air Force stand out as better playbooks than Navy’s. The Navy playbook does include all the same flexbone formations as well.
Spread Option Alternative Playbook
There are 10 alternative offensive playbooks in the game. The spread option playbook is mostly shotgun formations with only two pistol formations. If you want to really spread the field vertically and horizontally, while still utilizing the option game, then this could be the playbook for you.
The shotgun trio unbalanced formation is really interesting with plays like “HB swing” and “fake screen wheel.” Don’t be afraid to air the ball out in this playbook as well with a multitude of trio and trips formations.
