When University of North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick accepted the job, one thing became crystal clear. Belichick will do whatever he wants to do. Remember, this is the same man who ran the Patriots with an iron fist for 24 years.
Also, the same guy who stood up to his mentor, Bill Parcells, quit the Jets’ job hours after his hiring. Yes, the same coach that offered word tapas instead of a full salad during a press conference.
So, when he extended a scholarship offer to LeGarrette Blount Jr. people raised their eyebrows. Yet, the offer just proves that after 49 years in the coaching profession, Belichick is still Belichick, regardless of location.

North Carolina Offers LeGarrette Blount Jr.
When you think of the younger Blount, his father’s memory bubbles to mind. Many remember the elder as a hard-nosed downhill runner who won three Super Bowls, two with New England and the other with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Belichick respected Blount’s dedication to staying within himself and not trying to alter his running style. As a result, the two enjoyed tremendous success. Now, the younger Blount gets to learn under the tutelage of who many consider the greatest coach in NFL history.
The senior Blount took a circuitous route to college. First, he committed to Auburn, but his grades did not meet their academic standards. He attended East Mississippi Community College. Five national powers, Oregon, Florida State, Memphis, Louisville, and Kansas State, pursued him. Ultimately, the elder Blount chose Oregon, and the rest is history.
With his father’s career marked by multiple championships, the younger Blount starts his path in Chapel Hill. Now, who is LeGarrette Blount, Jr., and what does he bring to the field?
Most importantly, the younger Blount wouldn’t step on campus until 2028. As of right now, he profiles as an athlete who will grow and with time, will take the next three seasons to mature. Basically, the offer exists, and the younger Blount needs to live up to his end of the bargain.
Future Trend for Bill Belichick?
With Belichick at the helm via a five-year contract, how many other sons of former NFL players will see offers extended to them from North Carolina? Jonah Winston, younger brother of Jameis, continues to draw attention.
As an athlete, the younger Winston will draw a local bidding war between Auburn and Alabama. Cole Leinart, the son of Heisman Winner and national champion Matt, could figure into the mix as a quarterback if the Tarheels offer him.
Granted, Blount Jr. will enter his fall season with an offer from an FBS school. Now, that does not mean he should rest on his laurels and think he will coast through the next three seasons of high school ball. Bill Belichick remains his brick-like flexibility when it comes to accountability.

As of right now, the common belief states that Belichick will coach for about a year or so before turning the reins over to his son, Steve, and head back to the NFL. While Steve presents a long-term answer in coaching, in no shape, way, form, or fashion carries the status or influence that his father does.
As of right now, UNC wants the younger Blount, but how much will circumstances surrounding both parties feel the same in the next three years?
