Texas Tech’s starting QB, Behren Morton, went out twice in Saturday’s game against Utah due to an apparent head injury. The senior quarterback left the field for two plays during the first half, then returned.
Morton went out a second time after getting struck on the head by the shoulder of a defender. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Morton walked straight to the locker room after that injury.

Midway through the third quarter, the Red Raiders had a 10-3 lead over the Utes. Morton’s absence immediately puts Texas Tech’s offensive plan in some uncertainty, especially considering the stakes of the conference matchup.
The 6-foot-2 quarterback from Eastland, Texas, has been an extremely valuable piece in Texas Tech’s success this season. His absence could force an adjustment to the coaching staff’s plan with other potential options.
Behren Morton’s Rise From Eastland High School to Texas Tech
Morton commenced his time at college as a redshirt, all while steadily climbing the depth chart. Morton came from Eastland High School, as he was known to stand out throughout his high school career. He won the MVP award in the league three times. That recognition led to his success at the next level.
His senior year was impressive too, as he managed to rack up an impressive 3,613 passing yards along with 37 passing touchdowns, while also managing to add 893 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns on the ground.
Morton was also heavily recruited and given a four-star prospect status due to his production in high school. He had many offers from rival Power Five schools, which heavily considered his skill set in the recruiting process. Morton has thrown for over 50 career touchdown passes while climbing up the school’s record books.

The 2023 Independence Bowl was special to Morton. He earned the honor of Offensive Player of the Game for his outstanding statistics. Morton proved worthy of competing on the college football stage every time.
Morton earned the credit to be nominated for some of the highest honors on a national level, including the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.
