Who Raised BYU QB Bear Bachmeier and Shaped His Football Journey?

Bear Bachmeier is the son of Michael Bachmeier and April Bachmeier. Michael attended the United States Naval Academy and later served as a Marine. Meanwhile, April is originally from Thailand but moved to the United States when she was young.

Bear’s older brother Hank played college football as a quarterback for Boise State Broncos, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Another sibling, Tiger Bachmeier, plays as a wide receiver for BYU. Bear’s sister, Ella, was a track and field athlete. The Cougars quarterback also has a younger brother named Buck who is in high school but has an athletic background.

Bear’s family lived in a rural, mountainous area outside of town. Since the family is dealing with an athletic generation, they turned their home into a training ground. The siblings engaged in different types of football activities, including onside kicks, punting balls, running routes, and fighting for space as Hank threw passes. When Buck came of age, it became two-on-two matchups.

“Someone would always get thrown against the wall and a frame would always break,” Bear said. “Somebody would always have a bloody nose and mom would be screaming.”

With the athletic blood running among siblings, it was clear, Bear was surrounded by athletic minds, which really shaped his football career.

He went to Murrieta Valley High School (in Murrieta, California). There, he had a great career, registering over 6,800 passing yards and 59 passing touchdowns. In college, he briefly enrolled at Stanford Cardinal and engaged in their spring practices but transferred to the Cougars and became the first true-freshman quarterback in school history to start a season opener.
