Brewers Skipper Leans on Corbin Burnes, Josh Hader Precedent Amid Growing Freddy Peralta Trade Chatter

Having made his big league debut in 2018, Freddy Peralta has established himself as one of the Milwaukee Brewers’ most consistent starting pitchers. During his time at the American Family Field, Peralta has earned two All-Star selections.

Despite being so important to his team, however, Peralta may be on the move this winter. Under team control for only one more season, the Brewers are unlikely to re-sign the ace in free agency and may decide to cash in while they still can.

Appearing on Friday’s episode of the “Baseball Is Dead” podcast, Brewers skipper Pat Murphy explained the organization’s thought process behind shopping Freddy Peralta. He brought up the past departures of pitchers like Corbin Burnes and Josh Hader to drive his point home.

“He’s going to make over $150 million (in free agency),” Murphy said (Timestamp: 17:52). The Brewers, doing their due diligence as a small market team, you’re going to probably look at what you could get. Doesn’t mean you’re going to definitely trade him.”

“But you’re going to look at what you can get, because you’re not going to be able to pay him whatever number of million he’s going to get the following year. So why not look into that? Freddy understands, he gets it. He’s watched it. Hader, Corbin, all of it, you know. So you’re going to see a possibility of him being traded,” he added.

Insider Explains Why The Dodgers, Mets, Red Sox And Braves Are Interested In Trading For Freddy Peralta

Ever since reports of Milwaukee potentially being open to a trade for Freddy Peralta emerged, the likes of the LA Dodgers, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves have expressed their interest in acquiring the starter.

On Wednesday’s episode of “Pinstripe Territory,” The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal pointed out the one thing that made Peralta so attractive to these teams.

“I’ve heard everyone – from the Dodgers, to the Mets, to the Red Sox, to the Braves (are interested),” Rosenthal said (Timestamp: 12:07). “Because his salary for the season is $8 million, and that is a relative pittance for a starting pitcher of his quality.”

Freddy Peralta finished the 2025 season with a 17-6 record, 2.70 ERA, and 204 strikeouts. He played a key role in helping the Brewers win their division, the NL Central, for the third consecutive season, earning All-Star honors in the process.
