MLB Insider Warns Bo Bichette Deal Could Trigger Major Shift In Kyle Tucker Plans

Kyle Tucker enjoyed a strong 2025 season. Batting .266 with 22 home runs and 73 RBIs, the outfielder was one of the driving forces behind the Chicago Cubs’ push for a playoff spot. As he entered free agency once the campaign concluded, Tucker was expected to be the offseason’s most sought-after player. While several teams have been keeping tabs on the player, no one has succeeded in getting a deal over the line.

Now, with spring training less than two months away, the outfielder’s future is no clearer than it was three months ago.

For the longest time, the Toronto Blue Jays have been rumored to be the favorites to land Tuckeer. According to MLB Network Radio’s Steve Phillips, however, things could still take a very different direction if the Jays decide to prioritise Bo Bichette’s pursuit.

“If the Blue Jays go away on (Kyle) Tucker, if they sign (Bo) Bichette and go away on Tucker, Tucker’s in deep doodoo,” Phillips said (Timestamp: 1:18).

Bo Bichette’s acquisition is also one that the Blue Jays have allegedly been weighing up all winter. Arguably, acquiring Bichette makes more sense for the organization than acquiring Tucker.

In Bichette, Toronto gets a known quantity. Batting .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs in 2025, the infielder played a starring role in helping the Jays win the AL East for the first time since 2015. He will likely also cost much less than Tucker.

The New York Mets And LA Dodgers Represent Alternative Landing Spots For Kyle Tucker

If the Blue Jays were to ultimately decide against signing Kyle Tucker, he may still have offers from the Mets and the Dodgers.

The Mets, who are yet to make a big signing this offseason, need to add significant quality to their outfield, and Kyle Tucker certainly fits that bill.

As for the Dodgers, their outfield needs are not as desperate as the Mets. Also, a potential move to LA will likely require Tucker to give up on his reported ambitions of landing a contract in the range of $400 milliion, as the Dodgers will probably be more inclined towards a short-term, high AAV offer.
