Padres Analyst Weighs Kyle Tucker, Bo Bichette Potential To Take Bryce Harper, Manny Machado Route In Free Agency

Two of the winter’s top free agents, Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette, remain unsigned with the new season inching closer by the day. Though several teams have shown interest in the pair of stars, no one has succeeded in getting a deal over the line.

This year’s free agent market is proving to be quite a slow burner, and analyst Kyle Glaser believes things should begin to pick up in the next month.

Also, Glaser believes that Tucker and Bichette may follow in the footsteps of Bryce Harper and Manny Machado, and ultimately sign their contracts after spring training begins.

Glaser explained his thoughts on Thursday’s episode of “Friar Territory.”

“We still have a lot of free agents out there. Within the next month, we’re really going to see some things start cooking,” Glaser said (Timestamp: 36:38). “There might be some Manny Machado, Bryce Harper, ‘Hey, we’re not signing until after spring training starts’ kind of moves. But I do expect to see things picking up league-wide between now and the start of spring training.

“Kyle Tucker’s market is interesting. There is an increasing belief he might end up doing what (Alex) Bregman had to do last year. Take that shorter, high average annual value deal with multiple opt outs.”

Both Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette enjoyed superb 2025 seasons.

Tucker was one of the protagonists of the Chicago Cubs’ push for the playoffs. He finished the regular season with a .266 batting average, 22 home runs and 73 RBIs, earning his fourth All-Star selection and second Silver Slugger award.

Bichette, on the other hand, batted .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs, helping the Toronto Blue Jays win the AL East for the first time since 2015.

Both Kyle Tucker And Bo Bichette May End Up Joining Forces In Toronto

Looking to build on the success they enjoyed in 2025, the Toronto Blue Jays have been extremely aggressive in the market this offseason. Having already acquired Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce and Kazuma Okamoto, the Jays continue to maintain a keen interest in both Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette.

Bichette’s importance to the Blue Jays is already well-known at this point, and Tucker perfectly fits the team’s needs on both sides of the ball. Hence, there is a strong possibility we see both stars join forces at the Rogers Centre by the time the 2026 season rolls around.
