Bussell, a former offensive lineman at Tennessee, has officially committed to West Virginia through the NCAA Transfer Portal. Bussell, a three-star recruit from Mt. Juliet High School, spent two seasons with the Vols. He shared his commitment to the Mountaineers on social media, penning, “Country Roads take me home! West Virginia, Let’s Work!!”

His tweet references the beloved song “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver, a tune that holds a special place in the hearts of many West Virginians. The song celebrates the state’s beauty and charm, and Bussell seems to have embraced the spirit of the Mountaineers already. Now, it’s up to him to show that same passion on the field.

The Mount Juliet native redshirted his first year at Tennessee and appeared in three games last season. As a top-100 interior offensive lineman in the 2023 class, Bussell had offers from multiple SEC schools, including Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Alabama, and Notre Dame, before choosing Tennessee, which suggests that he has the experience the program needs.

So, he’s bringing that experience to Morgantown. The top SEC OL becomes the 22nd transfer addition for the Mountaineers this spring, and their sixth on the offensive line alone. He was ranked No. 858 nationally in the 2023 class and was one of Tennessee’s top interior line prospects. With three years of eligibility left, his arrival adds valuable depth and promise to West Virginia’s front line.

One thing is clear: West Virginia isn’t done building. It’ll be interesting to see who will be the 23rd player to join the team through the transfer portal this spring.
