Every elite-level athlete has family support, and that is the same for Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson. The kid from Maize, Kansas, has had a tremendous season in the Big 12 because of his play and leadership in the position, but it all starts with the parents and sister providing the foundation of support.
A lot becomes evident when you see what he has accomplished on the field. It is not hard to see the family presence and influence. Johnson led his high school team to the Class 5A state championship game back-to-back in high school, showcasing the desire and competitive spirit that his parents instilled in him.

That competitive spirit continued as he went from high school alongside talented athletes in Kansas to become honorable mention Big 12 offensive freshman of the year in 2023.

Who are Avery Johnson’s parents?
Mark Johnson and Hope Dent have been the main influences for their child’s athletic and personal growth. This team of parents realized early that success requires more than just a natural ability.
Mark Johnson, who was an athlete too, could see the competitive nature of his son at a young age. He made the choice to support Johnson’s athletic aspirations in as many ways as he could.
What Mark did was considered outside of the conventional parenting role of a sports parent. Mark was all about character development and projecting values that Avery would carry forward in his life, not just on the playing surface.
Once, Mark simply told YMCA Wichita that he believed Avery would one day be better than Michael Jordan, which validated that they have always believed in the potential of their child.
Who is Avery Johnson’s sister?
Lauren Johnson is yet another success story among the proud family. Johnson made her own way to collegiate sports notoriety with her success at Wichita State University.
Through her time playing softball at Maize South High School, Lauren began to carve her own path as a significant athlete. She earned the honor of team captain for 2 years while managing to earn four years of letters.
Her transition to collegiate athletics was effortless. As a true freshman, Lauren stepped right into the Wichita State softball program and played in 18 games.
