Auburn Lands QB With NFL Family Link — Here’s What You Need To Know About Top Prospect Deuce Knight

Deuce Knight joined the Auburn Tigers in January. As one of only two 5-star recruits in the Tigers’ 2025 class, the true freshman quarterback has already made headlines in the spring practice.

But there’s more to his story than rankings. It turns out football excellence might be in his DNA. Knight is related to former NFL wide receiver Ty Fryfogle, but what’s the connection?

How Auburn QB Deuce Knight Is Related to Former NFL Receiver Ty Fryfogle

This might come as a surprise: Knight isn’t just related to former NFL WR Fryfogle; they’re brothers, born to Jacqueline and Justin Knight. Their father, Justin, played college football at Ole Miss from 2000 to 2002, so it’s safe to say the game runs deep in the family.

While Deuce is stepping into the spotlight, Ty has already seen the highs and lows of a pro football career. After a standout college run at Indiana Hoosiers, Fryfogle went undrafted in 2022 but was quickly picked up by the Dallas Cowboys. Injuries, however, kept him off the field, and he was released just months later.

In 2023, he landed a reserve/future contract with the Kansas City Chiefs but was waived before the season kicked off. Most recently, he signed with the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas in August 2024, only to be released in March 2025.

Despite the setbacks, Ty’s talent has never been in question, and now, with Knight at Auburn, the bloodline is back in the football spotlight.

The rising QB captained George County High School under head coach James Ray. He racked up 7,855 passing yards and 56 touchdowns, along with 1,361 rushing yards and 31 scores.

Knight is not expected to be the Tigers’ starting quarterback in 2025. That role, at least for now, belongs to Jackson Arnold. Still, he’s in the mix, working alongside Arnold to help fix the Tigers’ long-standing QB woes. With talent like his, it’s only a matter of time before his moment arrives.
