The Texas State Bobcats and the Rice Owls are heading to the Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas of Friday for the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. The game is considered a tribute to veterans and armed services members, as well as being a college football bowl game. Both teams are from the state of Texas, with Fort Worth being considered neutral territory, so no team would have the home-field advantage here.
Much like many other teams entering a bowl game, Rice and Texas State are both expecting a few players to be out of this contest. This may be due to opting out due to declaring for either the transfer portal or the NFL draft, or other reasons, such as being injured.
Rice was 5-7 overall this season and was lucky to get into a Bowl game after all those teams that were eligible but refused. Meanwhile, Texas State was 6-6 overall and is aiming to prove that they belong in a bowl game this year.

Armed Forces Bowl: Texas State vs. Rice Opt-Outs And Injury Report
Rice Owls
- QB Chase Jenkins: Opted out, transfer portal
- WR Drayden Dickmann: Opted out
- RB Daelen Alexander: Opted out
- S LaVonte Johnson: Opted out
- QB Drew Devillier: Opted out
- CB Khary Crump: kicked off team in Week 7
For the Armed Forces Bowl, the Rice Owls will not be having much injury problems, but they have something much worse as their starting quarterback, Chase Jenkins, has opted out and is expected to enter the transfer portal once it opens on Jan. 2. With Drew Devillier also opting out, it now falls on backup QB Patrick Crayton Jr. to lead the Owls to victory against Texas State, which will have a pretty much intact roster.
Texas State Bobcats
- RG Tellek Lockette: Opted out, transfer portal, also injured
- RB/KR Jaylen Jenkins: Opted out, transfer portal
- DT Bryce Carter: injured, questionable
Texas State has minimal opt-outs and notable injuries, so they are pretty much complete heading into the Armed Forces Bowl. They will not be missing any key players, such as Rice, and one of their players opting out for the transfer portal was already injured to begin with, so the Bobcats are very well-positioned during this game.
