Arizona State football is on the rise, and a big part of that is head coach Kenny Dillingham’s unique approach to leadership.
In the latest episode of the “Speak of the Devil” podcast, offensive lineman Ben Coleman revealed that the Sun Devils are fully embracing Dillingham’s player-led culture. This commitment isn’t just from the athletes—Coleman emphasized that the staff are equally invested.

Dillingham’s journey to becoming the head coach at Arizona State is nothing short of remarkable. Starting his coaching career at just 17 after a knee injury ended his playing days, he quickly climbed the ranks. Across his high school coaching tenure and prominent roles at Memphis, Auburn, Florida State, and Oregon, Dillingham built a reputation for offensive innovation and player development.
In November 2022, he returned to his alma mater, becoming the 26th head coach of the Sun Devils and the first Arizona native to hold the position.
Dillingham’s approach is centered on empowering players to take ownership of the team’s culture. This strategy is resonating with the roster, and this level of commitment has translated to success in the field. In his second season, Dillingham led Arizona State to a Big 12 Championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff, defying preseason predictions that had them finishing last in the conference.
This culture shift at Arizona State is not only about short-term victories. Dillingham is building a foundation for sustained success, aiming to transform the Sun Devils into a national powerhouse. With top-tier facilities, a strong recruiting base in the southwest, and growing fan support, the program has the tools needed to compete at the highest level.

As the Sun Devils continue to buy into this player-led approach, the future looks bright. If their rapid rise under Dillingham is any indication, Arizona State is well on its way to becoming a force to be reckoned with on the national stage.
