Arizona State Sun Devils quarterback Sam Leavitt is a glue guy in the locker room as well. Known for his strong bonds with teammates, Leavitt’s camaraderie has left a lasting impact, and no one knows that better than former ASU guard Ben Coleman.
Having played alongside Leavitt when Coleman was the starting left guard next to center Leif Fantanu, he’s seen firsthand how the quarterback brings the team together.
The trio was part of the prestigious 12-man Tillman Leadership Council, meeting weekly with head coach Kenny Dillingham. Now, with Coleman stepping into the pivotal center role for the Sun Devils, he has nothing but high praise for Leavitt.

Ben Coleman Lauds Sam Leavitt for His Selflessness
Despite having no prior experience at center, Coleman brings confidence from his 2,554 career snaps as a guard. His transition to the new role comes with a major vote of confidence from offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo, who believes Coleman has the skill set to anchor the Sun Devils’ offensive line seamlessly.
Beyond his responsibilities on the offensive line, Coleman has embraced the role of Leavitt’s biggest supporter. In a conversation with Sun Devil Source, he praised the quarterback’s selfless nature, highlighting how Leavitt consistently shifts the spotlight onto his teammates rather than himself.
“He has the opportunity to take the fame for himself, but he wants to pass it to other guys. I think that’s important for fans to understand, is that our quarterback is a real quarterback. He’s not some prima donna,” Coleman said.
ASU offensive lineman Ben Coleman spoke very highly of QB Sam Leavitt’s character, and his looks 😂😂:

With a laugh, the ASU lineman couldn’t help but compliment the quarterback’s sharp looks and signature hairstyle.
“I know he seems like that he looks pretty and has pretty hair, and he said he won’t box with gloves because what if his nose gets in trouble and all this stuff? But I think it’s important for guys to understand he takes care of everybody in the locker room,” Coleman added.
With chemistry on and off the field, the Leavitt-Coleman duo is shaping up to be a cornerstone of Arizona State’s 2025 season. Sun Devils fans have plenty to be excited about as they watch this connection grow with time.
Steelers Great Praises Sam Leavitt for His Skills
The Sun Devils put together an impressive 11-3 campaign last season, earning a coveted spot in the College Football Playoff. Their journey, however, ended in heartbreak after a thrilling double-overtime battle against the Texas Longhorns, falling 39-31.
Leavitt completed 216 of 350 passes (61.7%) for 2,885 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just six interceptions.
Leavitt’s stellar debut season didn’t go unnoticed, as he was crowned the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and earned the highest PFF grade of any freshman at any position. His talent even caught the eye of Pittsburgh Steelers legend Hines Ward, who had high praise for the young quarterback during a conversation with “Arizona’s Family.”

“As a coach on the sideline, I can tell you, when there’s a TV timeout and we’re all on the sideline, Sam has that look in his eyes, like, ‘We will not be stopped. We’re going to score,'” Ward said about Leavitt. “He wants to score each and every time he touches a football. And he had that same look that Ben Roethlisberger had.
“Anytime I looked at Ben and his eyes, I just knew we were going to win the game because he had that look. He was not going to be denied of us winning. So I see a little bit of Ben in Sam in that aspect, just watching him and his approach because he’s very competitive,” Ward added.
With the spotlight now firmly on him, Leavitt carries the weight of soaring expectations. As the Sun Devils set their sights on national championship contention in 2025, all eyes will be on their young signal-caller to rise to the occasion.
