Arizona State Sun Devils QB Sam Leavitt wants to make a statement at the Peach Bowl when they face the Texas Longhorns on Jan. 1, 2025. Before the big game, the redshirt freshman QB made eye-catching remarks about his plans and that he is not going to budge, putting the Sun Devils on the map and potentially making the College Football Playoff National Championship.
His comments on Quinn Ewers caught everyone’s attention, as he intends to dominate the game single-handedly.
Sam Leavitt Makes Huge Remarks About Quinn Ewers
After playing for a season with the Michigan State Spartans, Leavitt transferred to Arizona State in hopes of starting a new journey. Instantly, he was named the starting QB, and the move worked out in Kenny Dillingham’s favor.
The team wrapped up the regular season with a 10-2 record atop the Big 12 leaderboard and punched a College Football Playoff ticket with a conference title. The Sun Devils crushed Iowa State in the Big 12 title game, 45-19, to earn a first-round bye, and now the Texas Longhorns are their next target.
On Saturday, while talking to the reporters, Leavitt did not hold back his true intentions. “I watch him for a fair amount of time now,” Leavitt said about Quinn Ewers.
“And I’m excited for this opportunity. People keep counting me out since Day 1, and I’m gonna prove why I’m the better quarterback. You know, that’s how I feel since Day 1. I’m going to go put everybody on the map,” he added.

This season, Leavitt has recorded 2,663 yards with a completion rate of 63.2% and thrown 24 touchdowns.
The team that was 3-9 last season saw dramatic changes after Leavitt took charge of the team. The momentum is expected to grow significantly, and the redshirt freshman QB’s mettle will be tested when they face the Ewers and the Longhorns on New Year’s Day.
Ewers’ Decision About His Future Remains Uncertain
There have been several reports of the Texas QB making a return in 2025 given his remaining NCAA eligibility. Although he would be a hot prospect if he declared for the upcoming NFL Draft, he hasn’t made a decision yet. Ewers’ return wouldn’t mean he will retain the starting job at Texas as Arch Manning is expected to take over the spot.
“I’m not sure yet,” Ewers told reporters, per Sports Illustrated. “I’m just trying to win these games. I haven’t thought about anything beyond that,” he added.
Fans can expect a decision soon after Texas wraps up its 2024 campaign.
