Arizona State 2025 Football Schedule: Sam Leavitt’s Heisman Push?

The Arizona State Sun Devils weren’t expected to do much coming into their first Big 12 season. Especially considering they were coming off a 3–9 campaign in 2023. But football has a way of surprising people. The Kenny Dillingham squad arrived with a new arsenal called Sam Leavitt. The quarter truly changed the game for the Sun Devils.

The Sun Devils went to a Big 12 Championship win over Iowa State and made their first-ever trip to the College Football Playoff. Leavitt, a transfer from Michigan State, went from relative unknown to one of the most talked-about quarterbacks in the country. He threw 2,900 yards and had 24 touchdowns.

Now, as the 2025 season stares at the ASU Sun Devils, the question on everyone’s mind is, will Sam Leavitt be able to bring home college football’s most coveted prize? Bringing the Heisman will not be easy, as the road ahead isn’t a cakewalk.

ASU has nearly 80% of its roster back. And their spring practice momentum is on the right track. However, it is not without some good fun. On day one of practice, Coach Dillingham had the field speakers blast Queen’s We Are the Champions on repeat. The message was simply: 2024 is out, and it is time to start the new season. And mindset is everything.

The hype around Sam Leavitt is high. He has even been tagged the No. 1 returning quarterback in college football by national outlets. But when have expectations won games? And the Big 12 isn’t sending any congratulatory fruit baskets. They’re coming to take ASU down. So, what does the team need to work on?

Well, for starters, chemistry. Seven new wide receivers are in the mix, and Leavitt’s most significant challenge might be getting his offense clicking early. Plus, with Cam Skattebo, last year’s do-it-all weapon, gone, the Sun Devils will need to re-establish their ground game and find new leaders to step up in the huddle. But don’t count Leavitt out just yet.

Leavitt has been working all offseason and has bulked up now. His rib injury in the playoff game has healed, too. He is in the best shape he can be. l. Arizona State isn’t chasing ghosts or trophies. They’re chasing elevation. And with Sam Leavitt at the wheel, Tempe might get its first-ever Heisman moment.
