CFB Analyst Snubs Arch Manning, Ryan Wingo While Naming Best Position Group On Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Roster

This Texas Longhorns offseason has been full of media coverage and constant trending headlines. Arch Manning has garnered most of the attention for this team, and Ryan Wingo has been on a similar trajectory. But analyst Josh Pate doesn’t have them as the most powerful force for the Longhorns.

During a recent episode of Josh Pate’s College Football Show, Pate pointed out that the Texas defensive line is likely the best pass rush in the nation, even more so than its high-powered offense. Colin Simmons, Trey Moore, and Ethan Burke are among the leaders of the group, and their presence alters everything, according to Pate.

“It must be the edge. Just men again that you are awaiting, and you know that they are in the chamber,” Pate said (5:10).

Pate continued by saying that such defensive firepower not only controls games, but it also makes offensive opportunities very easy. He pointed at punting and getting the ball back in a quick manner as one of the biggest momentum shifters in college football.

Josh Pate Believes Texas Pass Rush Can Be Helpful for Arch Manning

Josh Pate highlighted how a strong pass rush can single-handedly change games for the Texas Longhorns, especially when facing a road-heavy SEC schedule.

Texas will travel to Ohio State, Georgia, and Florida in 2025, as well as play the Red River Rivalry game against Oklahoma. This is a pass rush that Pate thinks will be the key to Texas getting to Atlanta with a first-time starter, Arch Manning.

“How do you justify it by saying they are healthy? The majority of them are unable to do so, he said. That is the type of pass rush where it is best friend of Arch Manning,” he said (5:25).

Pate also pointed in the direction of Ryan Wingo, who will be entering his second year, and said that he was a potential breakout player on the national scene. Though he emphasized that the offensive aspect should not be the main attention; that there is a lot of depth on the defensive side.

Josh Pate also forecasted a 10-2 record for Texas, believing that they can punch their ticket to the College Football Playoff. With Colin Simmons, Trey Moore, and Ethan Burke playing up to their billing, Pate believes the Longhorns can cash in.
