Arch Manning in his debut taking the field as the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns was one of the most highly anticipated events of the college season. However, the opening drives against a tough Ohio State defense did not live up to the extreme hype. The young quarterback seemed to be flustered and accountability was swift and harsh from fans.
Manning entered the field in the historic season-opening matchup between the nation’s No. 1 and No. 2 teams, but he looked uneasy after a few minutes. The reaction from fans online was immediate and harsh, aimed at an abysmal starting performance.
“Arch Manning wishing he would have hit that portal,” stated a fan.
“Arch Manning fraud checked already,” commented a fan.
“Not a great start from Arch Manning. Looked shaky with that throw to the sidelines,” said a fan.
“Can’t believe we found out on just the first two drives that Arch Manning and Max Klare are both busts,” remarked a fan.
“Been telling everyone Arch Manning is overrated,” said another fan.
“Arch Manning first drive…. Yikes brother,” reacted another.
Manning’s initial pass as a starter was an incompletion. It fell well short of his intended target. After running it for a first down on fourth-and-1 as part of a quarterback sneak, the first drive was stopped quickly.
With the aggressive calls from head coach Steve Sarkisian, they were stuffed on a fourth-down attempt after he went for another fourth down and turned the ball over on downs to the Buckeye defense.

Commentators Note Apparent Nerves In Arch Manning’s First Start
The woes continued on the next couple of possessions. Arch Manning’s second downfield throw was also incomplete, sailing high over his intended target. The Horns were forced to punt on their next two drives. Though Manning’s early completion percentage looked good from the stats, his passes included mostly short checkdowns, indicating he wasn’t comfortable throwing against the talented Ohio State secondary.
It wasn’t just the fans that noticed the rocky start for the new QB1. Analysts were stating that it looked like the Texas QB was a little jittery in the pocket and was indecisive with his reads and scrambling too soon.
The stage for this debut could not have been bigger. For the first time in college football, the two teams in the top 2 of the rankings would face off in Week 1. After spending two years behind Quinn Ewers, the pressure on Manning to live up to the hype was tremendous.
