Arch Manning Stats: How Did Texas Star Perform vs San Jose State?

Arch Manning had been under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after Texas’ season-opening loss to Ohio State. The Longhorns’ quarterback, carrying the weight of his last name, took the brunt of the criticism.

Being part of the Manning family comes with lofty expectations, and when he couldn’t deliver against the Buckeyes, doubts quickly surfaced. Fans and analysts alike questioned whether he was ready to be the face of Texas football.

But on Saturday, Manning answered decisively. Against San Jose State, the young quarterback showcased why he is such a highly rated player. The Longhorns rolled to a commanding 38–7 win, and Manning was at the heart of it all.

Texas dominated the game from the beginning, ending the first quarter with 14-0. By halftime, they were up 28-7. Manning threw four touchdown passes in under five minutes, including an 83-yard bomb to Parker Livingstone.

Manning’s final stat line tells the story. He went 19-of-30 for 295 yards, throwing four touchdowns while giving up just one interception. On the ground, he added 23 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown, showing he could extend plays when needed.

While the defense and turnovers helped set the tone, Manning was the centerpiece of the win. His ability to bounce back from a shaky opener and deliver a statement game will quiet some of the doubters, at least for now.

Football Legends Showed Support for Arch Manning

During a conversation with Romi Bean, Deion Sanders talked about Arch Manning and offered him unfiltered advice. Coach Prime referred to the advice he gave his sons and stated that Manning should try to block the outside noise.

“[Just] be you,” Coach Prime told Reporter Romi Bean in a chat. “Don’t placate to others, be you, and be the best you that you could possibly be. Quit trying to be whatever it is for them. And not that he’s doing that, but that’s what I told my sons. That’s what I tell my team. That’s what I tell everybody.”

NFL legend Tom Brady also had some encouraging words for Manning as he was under scrutiny. During a conversation with Cris Collinsworth, Brady said that the ideal thing for Manning would be to move on from the setback with some positive lessons.

“Even though he didn’t have his best game today and they lost, if he uses this to his advantage, Arch, he’s going to be tougher for it and he’s going to have a better next game because of it,” Brady said. (39:26)

What’s worth noting here is that Arch Manning did exactly what they said, took his time, and returned with a remarkable performance.
