The Miami Dolphins struggled in their season opener against the Colts, highlighted by an incompetent offense and consistent defensive breakdowns. They only scored eight points, all in the fourth quarter, as the Indianapolis Colts rode their way to a solid 33-8 win.
In the first half, Miami ended up with just 15 plays, and the quarterback Tua Tagovailoa recorded a career low passer rating of 51.7, throwing for 114 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and losing a fumble.
To further make the situation more complicated, star wideout Tyreek Hill stomped to the bench, looking very angry following a muted performance. The Colts dominated from almost every aspect of the game, and Tua’s struggles have made many wonder if he is heading to the bench for week 2.

Other QB Options for Miami?
The repercussions of the loss have already changed the focus to the quarterback room, and there have been speculations that a new leader would be able to save the season for Mike McDaniel’s Dolphins. Let’s take a look at the options:
Quinn Ewers
Quinn Ewers is waiting in the wings and has been acclaimed as having a knowledge of pro-style systems, although he has not yet been tried in a regular-season NFL game. Currently, he sits third on the roster behind Tua and Zach Wilson.
Carson Beck
If the Dolphins wait till the 2026 Draft, Carson Beck could be an option. Beck, who left Georgia to join Miami, arrived in the season with momentum after throwing for 267 yards on 24 passes in a decisive 45-3 win over Bethune-Cookman in Week 2 of the college football season.
Arch Manning
Outside of them, Texas quarterback Arch Manning seems to remain a hot topic as he makes his way through his first college season as the starter for the Longhorns. While Manning has said he plans to stay in college for at least another year, his potential does make an interesting option in the Miami quarterback debate.
Bottom Line
The Dolphins have an important decision to make in the coming weeks. As Tagovailoa has had difficulty, the debate on whether to stick with their number 1 or pass the baton to a backup has already become one of the storylines of the 2025 season in Miami.
