Quinn Ewers is set to make his first NFL start for the Miami Dolphins as Mike McDaniel announced the decision of their franchise QB, Tua Tagovailoa.
Ewers, who was a 7th round pick, is coming off of an impressive college career. He is considered among Texas’ best quarterbacks in the program history, leading the team for three years that included one Big 12 championship and one Playoff appearance.
Arch Manning served as Texas’ backup for two years, with many fans protesting to watch him instead of Ewers as the Longhorns struggled in a few games.
Having a high profile backup like Manning who comes from one of the best football families in the sport isn’t easy. However, Ewers did a good job of blocking the outside noise and maintained a good relationship with his backup.
During a press conference in August 2025, Manning was asked about Ewers’ performance in his second NFL preseason game. He replied:
“Yeah he balled didn’t he? He’s a baller, bro. He’s accurate. He makes plays. So I’m excited for him.
“I learned so much from Quinn in my two years behind him. I think he handled it like a pro. It’s definitely not easy having me as the backup with all the media. I’m forever grateful for him. I actually texted him the other week for advice on two-minute, what kind of plays he likes to start with,” he added.

Quinn Ewers On His Relationship With Arch Manning
Despite a lot of debate on whether Steve Sarkisian should just let Arch Manning, Quinn Ewers and Manning didn’t let it affect their bond.
During a phone interview with On3 on behalf of Panini America at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere in Los Angeles, Ewers called Manning a great and a good kid and said that he was fun to have in a quarterback room, reaffirming their relationship as good buddies.
“I’m super excited to see what he does. He’s a hard-working kid, he’s a hard studier. He’s going to set himself up to be as successful as he wants to be, and I think he’s got a chance to go do exactly that and continue on living out what we built at Texas,” Ewers said.
Texas finished the 2025 college football season with an overall record of 9-3.
