When Arch Manning committed to Steve Sarkisian’s Texas in 2023, he was expected to wait for one season before taking the centre stage as Quinn Ewers led the charge.
However, due to Ewers‘ decision to come back for the 2024 college football season, Manning was left waiting on the bench for an additional year, which many analysts even suggested he should enter the transfer portal and get the starting quarterback role somewhere else.
Despite the two-year wait, Manning decided to stick to the process at Texas and spent his time developing behind Ewers and is now ready to take the spotlight as QB1.
Talking about what his mindset was after spending all that time waiting, Arch Manning told the reporter during a press conference on Monday:
“I spent two years not playing, might as well go out and have fun, I’m going to focus on today. Saturday will be here soon enough. Im focusing on the present right now.” Manning said.
He further heaped praise on his wide receivers Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore Jr. and said that they got better with every practice.
“I think our receivers have gotten better and better every practice.”

Colin Cowherd Gets Real on Arch Manning’s Aggressive First Test Against Ohio State
Arch Manning is set to lead the Longhorns to their season opener matchup against the defending champions, Ohio State, on Aug. 30, which is not the easiest game for a first-time starter.
Cowherd predicted that Ohio State is going to try and confuse Manning and use the advantage of him not having a lot of in-game starts.
“So, I think you’re going to see a really aggressive Ohio State defense, at least early. They’re going to come after him. They’re going to they’re going to bring all sorts of pressures. And another thing, Texas, I don’t know if it’s a weakness, but Texas is young up front. And so you know, you don’t get preseason in college, and the most important unit on a team in terms of cohesion is the offensive line. I think the way to beat Arch Manning in Texas and because I don’t think you’re going to beat them late. I think they’re just going to get better and better and better. They’re going to be vulnerable in the first two to three weeks.”
Cowherd further emphasised the fact that Manning will be more dialled in week 5-6 compared to the first couple of games.
