Arch Manning has been under a lot of scrutiny over the last week. So far this season, he has shown flashes of brilliance but has largely struggled with consistency. After last week’s matchup against UTEP, Manning was blasted by fans and analysts.
However, when the Texas Longhorns were about to face the Sam Houston State Bearkats on Saturday, Manning was again expected to have a big game. The quarterback lived up to the expectations, going 18-21 for 309 yards and three touchdowns.
Manning had proved himself as his team went on to register a dominant 55-0 win. However, the internet wasn’t completely pleased with his performance, the obvious argument for that being the quality of the opponent.
“Arch Manning after he scores against future accountants and car salesman,” a fan wrote.
“Arch is excited to be playing the level of competition he’s used to,” a fan mocked Manning for playing well against a weaker team.

“the typa run Arch Manning is on rn,” a fan wrote.“Arch Manning vs ‘Sam Houston State’,” a fan wrote.
“Arch Manning when he’s playing against low ranked schools,” a fan wrote.
The mockery is understandable because the Bearkats have not won a single game this season. This was their fourth consecutive loss. They gave up about 38.7 points per game and over 440 yards on average until Week 3.

Steve Sarkisian Explains Why He Didn’t Bench Arch Manning in Week 3
The Longhorns registered a 27-10 win against UTEP. Overall, the team performed well on both ends, but Manning, in particular, had a terrible outing. He finished the game with only 11 completions on 25 attempts for 114 yards.
Fans even booed Manning during the game, while others took to social media to question Sarkisian’s decision not to bench Manning. The uproar was such that the head coach had to address it after the game.
“If Arch was having a bunch of mental errors and not operating the offense well, that maybe would have required to take him out,” Sarkisian said. “I didn’t think that was the case. Different things require different things to get your point across. We handled it accordingly.”

Saturday’s performance against Houston would boost Manning’s confidence. Other than that, it has done little to convince the fans that Manning is worth the hype.
