Antonio Brown Adds Fuel To Fire as Doja Cat’s Mockery Of Sydney Sweeney Goes Viral

Antonio Brown has decided to weigh in on the controversial debate surrounding Sydney Sweeney’s latest TV commercial. The Euphoria star is no stranger to the controversy created by her appearance in TV ads.

Just last year, Sweeney starred in several Dr. Squatch bodywash commercials that blatantly used her sex appeal and looks to attract male customers.

However, while those could be seen as a bit of harmless fun, it’s her more recent American Eagle jeans commercials that are raising some eyebrows in the United States. During the commercials for American Eagle, the homophone nature of genes and jeans is heavily used to create a pun between Sweeney’s jeans and the genes that provide her looks. A pun is also implied in the coincidence between Sweeney’s blue eyes (Blue genes) and the word blue jeans.

In a video published to her TikTok account, Doja Cat can be seen parroting Sydney Sweeney in a thick southern accent, usually associated with the caucasian population of the Confederate States and the segregated southern states of the 19th and early to mid-20th century. The video in itself also perpetuates negative racial prejudices of its own.

A segment of the public has reacted adversely to the ads, given that Sydney Sweeney’s caucasian ascendancy paired with the commentary used on the commercials, ostensibly signals the superiority of her particular racial group (Expressed as “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans/genes” at the end of every ad). In a country as racially polarized as the US, it beggars belief that a company wouldn’t realize how the ads could be miscontrued.

However, reactions from the opposite side of the political spectrum have been far from polite. And this is what Antonio Brown is getting at in his latest tweet. The former NFL wide receiver replied to a tweet that showed Grammy Award-winning rapper Doja Cat mocking the American Eagles ads.

Brown also wrote on his tweet:

“No one hates women more than other women.”

American Eagle executive doesn’t apologize for Sydney Sweeney’s campaign

It seems that American Eagle executive Ashley Schapiro sees the controversial “Great Jeans” campaign by Sydney Sweeney as a great success, and not as a gaffe.

In a LinkedIn post now gone viral, Schapiro explained how the campaign came to be:

“During a Zoom call with Sydney we asked the question ‘How far do you want to push it?’” she wrote. Sweeney’s response was immediate and exactly what the brand was hoping for. “Without hesitation, she smirked 😏 and said, ‘Let’s push it, I’m game.’” The team’s reaction was just as swift. “Our response? ‘Challenge Accepted.’”

Schapiro also highlighted that the campaign was only possible because of the star power Sweeney brought to the screen, and her willingness to go politically incorrect. If the campaign can be seen as politically divisive, it certainly succeeded in attracting public attention to the American Eagle brand.
