The backlash quickly spread because of how unlikely the trade was. The notion that an NFL team would part with substantial assets for a rookie quarterback selected in the fifth round was quite unbelievable for fans everywhere. Shedeur Sanders was predicted to be a top-10 pick, but he fell far down the draft rankings before landing in Cleveland.
Although the $6.9B worth Jets (as per Forbes) have yet to name a starting quarterback for their 2025 season, and recent developments only elevated concern. Naturally the fans are worried about the team’s long-term quarterback outlook because of the departure of Aaron Rodgers.
The franchise was able to sign Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract that should have stabilized the team. But during training camp on Thursday, Fields was carted off the field with a toe injury.
Once again there is a quarterback uncertainty for the Jets heading into the 2025 season. Tyrod Taylor has been taking reps in his place as the severity of Field’s injury is unknown. But, the majority agree that Shedeur Sanders is not the answer at least not yet.
