Analyst Thinks Garrett Nussmeier Would Rank as QB1 in 2025 NFL Draft

Garrett Nussmeier is coming off arguably the best season of his career. However, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree here, with him following in his father Doug’s footsteps. Doug played football at Idaho State and in the NFL for New Orleans before transitioning to the coaching aspect of the sport.

Garrett Nussmeier completed 337 passes on 525 attempts. He threw for 4,043 yards, including 29 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions. He played and started in all 13 games for LSU this season, which was his first complete season.

Recently, analyst David Syvertsen posted on X, formerly Twitter, that he thinks Nussmeier would rank as QB1 in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Analyst Believes Garrett Nussmeier Would Have QB1 in the 2025 NFL Draft

The 2025 NFL Draft is less than a month away. Excitement is at an all-time high for this class. Despite all the talent this draft class possesses, the quarterback class is fairly small. The top two are projected to be Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders. However, despite Jaxon Dart being favored as the No. 3 overall QB in the class, there’s not much beyond him.

It begs the question of whether Nussmeier could have been the undisputed QB1 if he had declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. Ward and Sanders are both very talented quarterbacks in their own right, but Nussmeier is also very talented with a ton of untapped potential, which explains why he’s sticking in college for another year or two.

Syvertsen recently took to X to express his praise for the LSU quarterback and even briefly spoke about how Nussmeier would have done it if he was in this 2025 NFL Draft class.

“Finishing up the LSU offensive line tape is reminding me how much I like Garrett Nussmeier and, for me, would have been the easy QB1 in this class.” Nussmeier posted on X this past Saturday evening.

It’s easy to see why some people think this about Nussmeier. Some of the throws he can pull off on the field are just ridiculous and very Patrick Mahomes-like. The crazy part is he’s just scratching the surface right now.

Truthfully, outside of Ward and Sanders, an argument can be made that Nussmeier would be one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft. It should be interesting to see what he does in the upcoming college football season.

His performance this year could ultimately be what makes him No. 1 overall next year or a bust. However, if history is right, Nussmeier could very well be one of the top QBs in the 2026 NFL Draft.
