Josh Pate Drops Blunt Views on Bill Belichick’s Chances of Winning the ACC Championship

Bill Belichick is paid $10M a year for his head coaching job at UNC, making him one of the highest paid coaches in the current college football era.

Despite being paid a hefty amount in salary, Josh Pate believes the fans shouldn’t expect Belichick to win the ACC championship in his year one.

During his latest analysis, Pate shared he doesn’t believe Belichick can play at the level where UNC can make the playoffs, compete with Clemson or win the ACC championship.

He further discussed that based on North Carolina’s football program’s recent history, where the last time they won more than 10 games in a season was 2015, Belichick shouldn’t be expected to achieve the milestones he talked about.

Talking about what might be in store for Belichick during his college career, Pate said:

“I’m going based off what North Carolina as a program has been capable of. You know, this place last 10, or more games in 2015 and before that, it was 1997 I don’t think this is going to be a great, big success for all the people talking about how much Bill Belichick is about to teach college football. I’m of the opinion college football maybe teach Bill Belichick a lot more than he’s going to teach college football.”

“Because you may think, Well, dude, if you were, if you’ve mastered the pro game for all those years, if you, and I believe this, if you are good enough where you could be a position coach in any room in the organization, then certainly college football should be a great big challenge for you. Well, from a strict coaching game perspective, it won’t be guys really good. That is not the name of the game in college football. The name of the game is getting players in college football, and I don’t think they’re going to do that enough to be able to compete and win.”

Belichick and UNC will kick off the 2025 college football season against TCU on September 1st at Kenan Stadium.
