Lane Kiffin is in the middle of a great season, but he might be losing the confidence of his Ole Miss locker room amid intense speculation of him possibly taking a job somewhere else.
This 2025 college football season has already seen multiple firings, leaving several top Power Five Programs like LSU, Florida and Penn State all searching for a new permanent coach. Kiffin is emerging as the top coaching candidate for all these destinations.
Amid these latest rumors, a concerning update was dropped by Fox Sports’ Aaron Torres. Unlike what Kiffin perceives these rumors as outside noise, Torres reported that several players in the Ole Miss locker room are not happy with Kiffin.
“I can tell you, unequivocally, from 100 percent sourced, first hand knowledge, Lane Kiffin is *not* speaking for all his players here,” Torres wrote. “There are a lot of guys in that locker room who are not happy to be part of the Lane Kiffin circus. Nor do I blame them.”

Torres tagged the post from Kiffin’s past comment, where he addressed that his players are not bothered about the coaching speculations going on outside, and if they are leaving, it might be more based on financials than regarding the head coach.
“I think they’ve done an amazing job,” he told reporters on Monday. “It’s a different generation, guys…They can leave every year, a lot of that is financially based. They don’t think the traditional way like years ago about their coach, what’s gonna go on with them next year…”

Latest On Lane Kiffin’s Coaching Rumors
Lane Kiffin’s future with Ole Miss will be decided after Friday’s Egg Bowl at Mississippi State. Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter stated:
“An announcement on Coach Kiffin’s future is expected the Saturday following the game.”
Currently, the AD and the head coach are more focused on the season at hand, as the Rebels make the push for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
“Coach Kiffin and I have had many pointed and positive conversations regarding his future at Ole Miss,” Carter wrote in his statement. “While we discuss next steps, we know we cannot lose sight of what is most important — our sixth-ranked team that is poised to finish the regular season in historic fashion… Despite outside noise. Coach Kiffin is focused on preparing our team for the Egg Bowl.”
With vacancies at LSU and Florida appearing on the horizon, Kiffin might be tempted to go elsewhere. LSU is even reportedly offering to make him the richest head coach in college football history. It remains to be seen what happens after this Egg Bowl game.
