How will Deion Sanders Colorado Buffaloes fare in 2025? Not bad, but not better than last year if you ask Joey Galloway.
The college football analyst appeared this Thursday on “Get Up With You”, where he, Josh Pate, and Mike Greenberg previewed the upcoming season and in specific the Buffs’ chances.
When it came to speaking about Colorado’s prospects in the 2025 season, Galloway said that people need to tame their expectations, considering the losses the Buffaloes had in the offseason to the NFL Draft:
“I think that people have these lofty expectations that are sort of unfair. He lost the best player in college football in Travis Hunter, lost his starting quarterback. So they’re going to take a step back. You gotta win the games you’re supposed to win, you gotta always do that, and then be competitive in the other games. When you have ranked opponents, when you have opponents at home, you have to be competitive in those games. This team may be different, I agree. You go back to before he got there. Nobody was talking about Colorado at all. We wouldn’t be having this discussion on ‘Get Up With You’ Greeny right now.” (5:00)
Fellow analyst Josh Pate echoed Galloway’s take that some people in the sport have unrealistic expectations for Colorado and Deion Sanders. Above all, people should remember how the Buffaloes were doing just before Sanders’s arrival and how much they have improved since then.

Deion Sanders’ message for Colorado’s freshmen class
Deion Sanders famously only recruits players who he believes have a chance to get a spot on the roster from the start, mainly relying on the transfer portal for bringing in new players. This means that, despite incoming freshmen classes in Colorado being small, the coaching staff is truly invested in their development.
Recently, the Buffs held a freshmen-only meeting to set expectations for the upcoming campaign. Part of the meeting was recorded by “Thee Pregame Show” and shows a highlight of Sanders’ message for incoming players:
“Who got that kind of mentality that the guys you’re competing against they can’t faze you? They can’t see you,” Sanders challenged the freshmen, via Thee Pregame Show. “You know just as much as they know, and you’re ready to compete with them every day.” (0:30)
“When we recruit you, we want you to play. I’m not stopping you from playing. You got to be trusted so much that we can trust you there…You gonna make a play? Make a case. I got you,” he added. (3:15)
Colorado notoriously gave several freshmen significant playing time in the 2024 season, with Jordan Seaton, Cash Cleveland, Dre’lon Miller, and Micah Welch being the most prominent examples.
