After training camp and preseason games, Shedeur Sanders managed to make the cut in the 53-man roster as the third string quarterback behind veteran Joe Flacco and third round pick Dillon Gabriel. Earlier, Sanders was picked at No. 144 by the Browns despite a first-round projection in the 2025 NFL draft.
According to the latest reports, Sanders is not even running the scout team. This made analyst Tony Rizzo think about the value of the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback on the Browns roster.
“I’m hearing Shadour is not even running scout team,” Rizzo said on his podcast. “He’s literally just watching everyone play. Bailey Zappi’s running the scout team. I don’t know if that’s true. That’s just what I’m hearing. Why is he on the team? Why is he even here? If that’s what you think about, because his jersey is selling? They don’t need, the Haslams don’t need jersey money, do they? No, they don’t.
“Then why is he on the team if he’s not even, if he’s not even running the scout team Somebody better ask Tommy Rees whether Shedeur’s running the scout team or not. Because I heard he’s not.”

Shedeur Sanders Received Grim Update About His Future This Season
Given that Shedeur Sanders is not even leading a scout team, it suggests that the near future of the quarterback doesn’t look promising at all. Since he has two QBs ahead of him, there is a less likely chance of Sanders seeing any gameday action this season. Dianna Russini of The Athletic said:
“Cleveland believes in Joe Flacco’s experience and Dillon Gabriel’s ability to back him up. Andrew Berry still thinks there is a place for Shedeur Sanders on this roster. But his chances of seeing regular-season action in 2025 are unlikely.”
Despite being a third stringer, the Browns are getting benefitted because of his popularity off the field. The Colorado standout’s NFL jersey ranks fifth in sales among all the stars.
