2024 All-Bowl Season College Football Team Honors

Bowl Season Offensive Player of the Year: Harold Fannin Jr., TE, Bowling Green

Kyle McCord became the ACC’s all-time single-season passing yardage leader in the Holiday Bowl. Cam Skattebo nearly single-handedly carried Arizona State past Texas in the College Football Playoff. And Jeremiah Smith torched Oregon for a jaw-dropping 7-187-2 receiving line. Yet, no offensive performance embodied bowl season quite like Harold Fannin Jr.’s.

Although the Bowling Green Falcons lost to the Arkansas State Red Wolves in the Ventures Bowl, Fannin did all he could, catching 17 passes for 213 yards (both bow records for a TE) and one score while adding another eight yards on one carry.

Fannin finished the season as the FBS leader in receptions (117) and receiving yards (1,555), with both numbers shattering single-season records for TEs.

Bowl Season Defensive Player of the Year: Jahdae Barron, CB, Texas

Fisher Camac had the sacks.’ Chandler Martin had the tackles. Tamarcus Cooley and Jaylon Jimmerson had the interceptions. But no single defender impacted a game, especially one of such importance, more than Jahdae Barron in the CFP quarterfinal against Arizona State.

Barron led the Texas Longhorns with 11 total tackles from his outside corner position, seven of which were solo. Typically, when a corner has that many tackles, it means he allowed plenty of receptions. But that’s not the case here.

Barron was targeted just four times on 101 total snaps, allowing only two catches for 12 yards. That means nine of his tackles came as a support defender, which is not common from the position.

Bowl Season Special Teams Player of the Year: Blake Craig, K, Missouri

Heading into the final quarter of the Missouri Tigers’ bout with the Iowa Hawkeyes, kicker Blake Craig had yet to attempt a field goal.

Yet, there was no rust when he trotted onto the field for back-to-back 50+ yarders, nailing kicks from 51 and 56 yards out to tie and ultimately take the lead with under five minutes to go.

Bowl Season Head Coach of the Year: Brian Newberry, Navy

The Navy Midshipmen’s history dates back to 1891. Head coach Brian Newberry led the program to just its sixth double-digit win campaign in only his second year at the helm.

After a 6-0 start, the Midshipmen fell in three of their next four games, putting a 10-win season in jeopardy. But Newberry’s squad rose to the challenge, defeating East Carolina and service academy rival Army to close out the regular season. They had one opponent left: the Oklahoma Sooners.

The SEC squad opened as 9-point favorites in the Armed Forces Bowl. When the dust settled, it was Navy who sat on top. After allowing 14 points in the first quarter, the Midshipmen conceded zero until the final defensive drive. With Oklahoma going for two and the game on the line, Navy did what it did all year: execute.
