Last season was a transformative year in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. In the first season without legendary HC Nick Saban, Kalen DeBoer’s squad managed nine wins and an appearance in the ReliaQuest Bowl. In Alabama, this isn’t nearly enough.
As a junior, ‘Bama WR Germie Bernard totaled 50 receptions for 794 yards and two touchdowns. Although Bernard did not dominate the game as he may have hoped, he contributed significantly, recording 80 receiving yards on four catches. With his last college season on the horizon, Bernard says he’s ready for redemption for the Crimson Tide.

Germie Bernard Reflects on ‘Disgusting Taste’ Left by Alabama’s 2024 Season
Alabama WR Germie Bernard opened up about the team’s tough 2024 campaign, calling it a painful experience and vowing to come back stronger this offseason. He didn’t mince words when asked to reflect on the season, describing it as an “a** season.”
“We go a disgusting taste in our mouth…Don’t nobody ever want to feel like that again.”

Making it clear he doesn’t want a repeat of the past year, Bernard outlined his goals and what he’s working on personally, both for himself and his team.
“We’ve been after it. [The previous season] had a disgusting taste in my mouth. We are just working, but personally, I’m just trying to get better — a vocalized leader. Being consistent, being a leader. Being a leader is a different role, but I’ve been embracing it. I’ve been trying to improve, trying to learn new things, and how to be a leader, Bernard explained.
“I’ve watched different podcasts about different people. I just like to hear a little motivational stuff, inspirational stuff. Another thing I’ve been working on is trying to bring others along. I’m doing the work they have put me here to do. I have a purpose here, and so I’m just trying to understand my purpose,” he continued.
Bernard’s focus on leadership and mental development includes listening to motivational podcasts, honing his consistency, and striving to become a better teammate.

Bernard’s offseason mindset—combined with intense team practices and a young roster eager to grow—could be a game-changer for Alabama next season.
While there is a quarterback battle brewing for the Tide, Bernard — paired with superstar sophomore Ryan Williams — should be more than enough firepower for whoever wins the job. Regardless of who starts, ‘Bama will begin its 2025 campaign on August 30 with a date in Tallahassee, Florida, against the Florida State Seminoles.
