Alabama Players React to Ryan Grubb’s First Spring Practice With Crimson Tide

Alabama players shared their first experience during spring practices under new OC Ryan Grubb.

Ryan Grubb spent last season as the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator. After Alabama’s disappointing 9-4 campaign in 2024, head coach Kalen DeBoer decided to bring Grubb to the collegiate level. He was hired as the team’s new offensive coordinator for the upcoming season.

Ryan Grubb has experience coaching in college. Before his job in the NFL, he spent two seasons with the Washington Huskies. So, what do Alabama players think about their new offensive coordinator?

Alabama Players Share Their Thoughts on Ryan Grubb After Spring Practice

Kalen DeBoer hopes Ryan Grubb’s presence will help the team’s offense next season. To keep Nick Saban’s legacy alive, the Crimson Tide must be a strong contender for the SEC title and a spot in the 12-team playoffs in 2025. Grubb initially planned to join DeBoer’s team last season but eventually ended up transitioning to the Seahawks.

So far, the team has had two spring practices with Ryan Grubb. The players are already excited to work under his guidance and expertise. Running back Jam Miller stated that everybody loves his presence on the team.

“We all love him. Last year, he came in, and he ended up leaving, of course, but now we know him like he’s been here for a minute, so right now, we’re just working and getting better.”

A few Washington players followed DeBoer to Alabama when he took over. One of them is WR Germie Bernard. Bernard already has experience under Ryan Grubb, and he believes that his presence as the offensive coordinator next season will elevate their game on the field.

“Just being able to be in the offense that he has, as we all saw in 2023, it’s very explosive,” Bernard said. “Just to be able to have that system back, and especially with the guys that we have, I know that we’ll be able to recreate some good things.”

Ryan Grubb Has Hope From Alabama’s Offense Next Season

While speaking with the press during spring practices, Grubb said that Alabama possesses talent on the offense. He also praised the team’s efforts to utilize quarterback Jalen Milroe’s dual-threat abilities.

“There’s some really talented guys,” Grubb said. “I thought they did a really good job of using Jalen with his legs. I know that’s not necessarily what Jalen wants to be known for.”

“He wants to be a quarterback, and he is a very good one, but I thought they did a good job of utilizing talent, finding ways to be creative, and getting the ball down the field.”

Jalen Milroe did not have the best campaign of his collegiate career last season. He struggled with inconsistency despite showing glimmers of hope occasionally.
