Defensive lineman Tim Keenan has been ruled out for Alabama’s season opener against Florida State on Saturday. The update was offered by Kalen DeBoer himself on “Hey Coach” this Thursday, while ESPN had already reported on Wednesday afternoon.
During the show on Thursday, the Crimson Tide’s coach described the player’s situation as follows:
“got dinged up here a couple days ago, or yesterday.”

According to ESPN, Keenan was set to undergo a tightrope surgical procedure on Wednesday, and he’s expected to miss several games. However, the Crimson Tide coaching staff expects him to be back at some point in the season. He’s one of the team’s starting defensive linemen and has been in the program since 2021.
Tim Keenan joins running back Jim Miller, who dislocated his collarbone in a scrimmage and will also miss multiple games.

Kalen DeBoer on Alabama’s quarterback room entering the 2025 season
In the aforementioned video, Kalen DeBoer also made a rather bold statement about Alabama’s quarterback room, stating that it’s the best in the nation:
“Our quarterback room is getting coached better than any quarterback room in the country.”

Ty Simpson headlines the Crimson Tide’s quarterback room at the moment. This is Simpson’s fourth season with the Crimson Tide, but his first chance to truly prove his value as a quarterback. Through three seasons, he has appeared in only 16 games and none as a starter. He was a five-star recruit in 2022, who was considered the fourth-best quarterback in his class.
Behind him are Austin Mack and Keelon Russell. Russell is also a former five-star recruit who was the second-best signal caller in this year’s class. Mack is a former four-star from the class of 2024 who transferred from Washington to Alabama alongside DeBoer.
On paper, these are all top prospects. The biggest problem is, they’re all untested on the field. Time will tell if Kalen DeBoer’s assertion is true or not.
