After losing to Indiana in the Rose Bowl game, the NCAA transfer portal has opened just in time for several Alabama players. The Crimson Tide finished second in the SEC conference with a 7-1 record and went 11-4 overall. They secured the No. 9 rank in the College Football Playoff rankings.
Following the stingy 38-3 loss, Alabama has already seen several notable departures from the program. While head coach Kalen DeBoer evaluates the needs of the team, players are contemplating their future with the program.

Alabama Players Who Have Entered Transfer Portal
As of Jan. 5, as many as 17 players have entered the transfer portal. The reason for doing so ranges from limited opportunities to higher aspirations.
- WR Bubba Hampton
- S Kameron Howard
- OL Roq Montgomery
- RB Richard Young
- WR Jaylen Mbakwe (committed to Georgia Tech)
- OL Joseph Ionata
- WR Jalen Hale
- OL Olaus Alinen
- OLB Noah Carter
- K Peter Notaro
- OL Micah DeBose
- WR Cole Adams
- OL Wilkin Formby
- DE Keelon Keeley
- CB Cam Calhoun
- LB Qua Russaw
- LS David Bird
Bubba Hampton didn’t even join the team for the season, while Kameron Howard and Roq Montgomery featured in just two games combined in 2025.
Richard Young and Jaylen Mbakwe haven’t made quite the splash despite boasting good high-school recruiting rankings. Mbakwe struggled after switching positions from DB to WR and is now heading to Georgia Tech.
Richard Young saw a reduction in playing time and chose the portal to get better opportunities. Roq Montgomery never earned meaningful snaps through his years at Alabama. Joseph Ionata’s entry in the transfer portal is to do with inconsistent rotation. After missing the whole of 2024, Jalen Hale was buried in the depth chart and now wants to reset his career elsewhere.
Olaus Alinen, Micah DeBose, and Cole Adams entered the transfer portal with no obvious reasons. Wilkin Formby’s decision to enter might be because of ongoing offensive line shuffling and depth shifts.
Alabama Top Transfer Portal Arrivals
Despite heavy losses, Alabama has started adding portal talent:
- Hollywood Smothers (RB, NC State No. 2-ranked portal RB)
- Josh Ford (TE, Oklahoma State)
