No event is safe when the College Football Playoffs are concerned. Even coverage of the inauguration of Donald Trump, when a diehard Alabama Crimson Tide fan called into national coverage to voice his concerns.
But that’s not just all this fan had to say, expressing his mind openly on CSPAN’s live coverage.
Alabama Fan Interrupts Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day Coverage
As crossover stories are concerned, they don’t get much more visceral and obvious than a disgruntled fan waiting his chance, picking his shot, and airing his grievances to a national audience of unwitting and unexpecting viewers. That’s precisely what happened during CSPAN’s coverage of Trump’s inauguration as the 46th President of the United States.

In the clip above, the caller jumps into his disappointment around the College Football Playoff Selection Committee and their choice to leave Alabama out of the Playoffs.
“I’m a bit more disappointed in the Selection Committee for not picking Alabama for the College Football Playoffs,” the caller said. “Instead, sending in teams like SMU and Indiana.”
But he didn’t call off the dogs just there. Knowing he would likely be cut off sooner than later, the caller equated Alabama’s absence to dark times, a name colloquially given to something like COVID, a global pandemic, from just a handful of years ago.
“Truly dark times in America.”
It was then, and only then, that the host of CSPAN’s coverage interjected to get the caller back on track.
Interrupting a national broadcast is one thing, but interrupting it to provide your dismay toward the College Football Playoff Selection Committee is something completely different.

But therein lies the nature of the college football fan: completely different. School colors run truer than even the allegiance to their country’s elected officials. The pageantry and pride one has for their school is not rivaled by any political affiliation.
And that’s what makes college football the greatest sport in America.
Well, that’s at least what that caller would have you believe.
