Adam Schefter stepped into the Sherrone Moore controversy with comments that many viewers felt leaned toward defending the former Michigan coach. Schefter pointed out that Moore had never shared his version of events publicly and said the coach believed people had targeted him long before this scandal broke.
He suggested that Moore felt surrounded by critics during his time at Michigan and believed some individuals were waiting for the chance to bring him down.
Schefter also acknowledged the university’s stance, saying it was possible the school had solid evidence of policy violations involving a staff member. At the same time, he indicated that Moore’s claims of being undermined could also be true.

He stressed that players suddenly lost their leader, the school was left without direction, and the entire sequence played out in a way that felt unreal even by college football standards. The segment immediately sparked backlash from fans online.

“People really were out to get him. He wasn’t going to cheat on his wife and get someone pregnant until he felt like the naysayers were after him,” a fan wrote.
“ESPN is obligated to race bait. Guy cheated on his wife with a coworker knowing it’s prohibited by his employer and he is the victim,” a fan wrote.
“Well, I think Moore losing it and being in jail now is telling,” a fan wrote.
“Hes a reporter who is covering a story from his alma mater. Schefty is a Michigan guy. There’s some bias here,” a fan wrote.
There were some fans in the replies who understood that it was reasonable for Schefter to say that people should hear both sides.
“There’s nothing controversial about that. Wanting to hear both sides? The other way about it is controversial which is – we hear one side now it’s time to cook him,” a fan wrote.
Many fans pointed to Schefter’s Michigan roots and stated that he was defending Moore because of his ties to Michigan.

Sherrone Moore Was Fired For Cause
Michigan removed Sherrone Moore after an internal inquiry found evidence that he violated university policy by engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Because he was fired for cause, the school does not owe him a buyout.
The fallout escalated when law enforcement took Moore into custody only hours later. Police detained him as part of an investigation into an alleged assault involving a staffer connected to the case.
Authorities emphasized that the situation did not appear random and did not pose a threat to the public. Moore was transferred to the Washtenaw County Jail, where he awaits further review by prosecutors.
No formal charges were immediately announced, and the investigation is still active.
